Maxwell and Jill Scott, two of soul music’s brightest stars, will take the stage at the St. Pete Times Forum on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the concert are on sale now.
Maxwell was enormously important in defining and shaping the neo-soul movement that rose to prominence over the latter half of the '90s. Drawing his greatest inspiration from the concept of the R&B auteur (looking to artists like Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, etc.), Maxwell recorded some of the most ambitious R&B of his time, becoming wildly popular and often earning critical raves in the process with hits like “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder),” “Lifetime” and the outstanding cover of Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work.” His third album, Now, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Album Charts. His recurring theme of romantic monogamy set him apart from the vast majority of his lover-man contemporaries.
Jill Scott is an artist with an abiding, deep commitment to lyrical honesty and musical integrity. Using vivid imagery and her own distinctive poetry to breathe life into words, Jill Scott digs inside to bring forth the accompanying emotion. A mature R&B vocalist who excels with slower, sensual material ("Slowly, Surely," "I'm Not Afraid," "My Love"), she is versatile enough to pack plenty of punch with anthems of pride and self-empowerment ("Golden," "Family Reunion," "Hate on Me"). |
