In gratitude for the support and passion of our community, the Foundation will focus its unique resources to advance amateur hockey and educational enrichment opportunities for children, along with medical research and treatment for those in need. Climb For The Cure: Season Ticket Holder Journey On February 19, 2007, Marc Eichenholtz, a season ticket holder and big Bolts fan, embarked on a trek to raise money for Ovarian Cancer. The trip, a fundraiser titled Climb for the Cure, took Marc and three friends to Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the tallest mountains on earth and the highest in Africa. Here they attempted to reach the summit of the 19,000-foot peak. (more)
Hey, Coach! Christine Tortorella, wife of Lightning head coach John Tortorella, reaches out to the community with the publication of her first book, Hey, Coach! Sponsored by University Community Health, Mrs. Tortorellas book reaches school children in grades K-5 to teach them about team work, family, hard work and other positive motivational concepts. Students follow ThunderBug and his pal Little Bolt through the St. Pete Times Forum as they learn about concepts used by the Lightning and Coach Tortorella.

| GLITZ & STICKS Celebrity Casino Evening: | | Over 650 guests and members of the Lightning organization came together in late September to kick off the season and take part in the first major fundraising event of the season; Glitz and Sticks. In its fifth year, the casino night presented by Melitta USA included a silent auction and gourmet dinner for those in attendance. As players manned card tables and roulette wheels, the Lightning Foundation auctioned unique items to help raise money for the renovation and enhancement of Tampa General Hospitals Childrens Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Auctioning items such as gift baskets featuring favorite items chosen by Lightning players, the event raised nearly $500,000 through its first four years.
John Tortorella Celebrity Fishing Tournament: PHOTO GALLERY FROM THE DAY'S EVENT As the Tampa Bay Lightning prepared to return to the ice for the 2006-07 season, Lightning head coach John Tortorella helped kick off the year by hosting the second annual Celebrity Fishing Tournament, presented by Raymond James Trust, Private Wealth Management. After breakfast at the Tampa Marriott Waterside, 60 anglers paired up with Lightning players, coaches, broadcasters and members of senior management to take part in a day of inshore fishing. At the conclusion of the tournament participants came together at Shots for cocktails, awards, a Seafood Fest and the opportunity to share their stories from the day. All proceeds, including those from the event auction, benefited the Child Abuse Council, The Childrens Home, Inc., and the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation.
Pink Hat Project: For the Pink Hat Project, unique Lightning ball caps were designed for the Foundation. The pink hat features the Lightning logo and an embroidered breast cancer awareness ribbon. The project began in February 2005 with a Pink Hat Luncheon to kickoff the selling campaign and continued throughout the summer, during which pink hats were sold at every opportunity. To date, the program has raised more than $70,000 for The Don and Erika Wallace Comprehensive Breast Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Institute. To date, the Pink Hat Project has been an immensely successful fundraiser.
Foundation Game Night Activities: Each Lightning home game plays an important role in the Lightning Foundations fundraising activities. New this season, an auction of sports memorabilia can be found prominently on the plaza level concourse (SECTION 122), the auction includes interesting and one of a kind pieces, the auction is a must see for the enthusiastic sports fan. The auction closes at the end of the second intermission. The Lightning Foundation will donate funds generated from the auction to local charities and organizations who serve those in need throughout the Tampa Bay area. Also, the Foundation offers a 50/50 chance drawing each game night. The 50/50 chance drawing proceeds are split between one lucky winner and a local charity. This year's beneficiaries include: SMART RIDE, Epilepsy Charities, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Child Abuse Council.
